The lion and the unicorn

This is the beginnings of a painting that I'm doing for class. The entire theme we were given to go on, is that we're supposed to paint a poster for a play called "The king". Everything else was left up to us. It could be the King of Time, King of Death, King of No Pants, whatever. So, I asked my prof. if it had to have a human in the painting. He said if I could figure out a way around it, I was welcome to try. So, I'm doing my poster on the idea of that old rhyme: The lion and the unicorn were fighting for the crown...etc. The idea is that the hearldry animals are coming off their banners to do combat with eachother.
Since it's not finished yet, critiques are more than welcome~!

It's acrylic on canvas. I'm sorry about the quality of the photo....this was done just in my room, where the lighting is horrible. I'll post a picture of the finished painting once I've got it done.
